In 2007 the District Council, in partnership with both the County Council and the Town Council, initiated a programme of regeneration for Exmouth.

A regeneration Programme Board has been established as a partnership between the local authorities, key statutory agencies and local business groups to oversee the implementation of regeneration for the town.  Information relating to regeneration issues is regularly featured in the business e-newsletter produced by Town Management.  Below are the key objectives and benefits that underpin the regeneration programme.

Programme Objectives

  • To improve the retail offering of the town by targeting national and regional retailers as an outlet for high quality food and comparison goods.
  • To maximise the impact of the seafront by encouraging inward investment into projects that support the vision.
  • To improve the quality of community facilities within the town, ensuring such provision reflects the likely pressure on population growth.
  • To provide, where economically viable, road infrastructure improvements and improved parking facilities that support the growth in visitor numbers and population.
  • To link the learning and skills agenda to economic planning for the town, and realise this into actual projects on the ground.
  • To ensure all programme activity supports the town’s identity – Arts, Leisure and the Environment.

Strategic Benefits

  • Improved local economy by significantly increased spend within town - both from improved visitor numbers and a population that turns to face the town.
  • Improved sense of pride in the town by both visitors and residents.
  • A wider range of jobs with improved salary opportunities.
  • Improved learning opportunities that demonstrate clear links to local jobs.
